Last year we saw the release of Chase at Fushe , a fast paced and action packed movie made using the Battlefield 2 game engine. In 2008, the thrilling chase continues with Siege in Songhua . Today, I had a chance to speak with Keyelite, the creator of Chase at Fushe and the upcoming sequel.
Canuck: Good morning Keyelite, and welcome to GT. I just watched your trailer for the upcoming release of Siege in Songhua and it looks like it is going to be another exciting movie. Before we get started, could you please introduce yourself to our viewers.
=P=Keyelite: I'm Philip Negroski from Florida
and I am 19 years old. The only background in filmmaking is a short summer
course about it; the rest of my experience comes from learning and
experimenting with video editing programs.
Canuck: We all know about Chase at Fushe, was Chase at Fushe
your first movie?
=P=Keyelite: No, I have done a few Battlefield 2 videos
before Chase at Fushe, such as Assault On Ocel Cekca Keyes and Ambush at
Mashtuur . However, Chase at Fushe was my first major machinima project.
Canuck: I just watched the trailer and it looks amazing. I
see your new movie is a sequel to Chase at Fushe. Can you tell us something
about the storyline for those that are not familiar with Chase at Fushe?
=P=Keyelite: Siege on Songhua picks
up where Chase at Fushe left off. Jing escapes from the Americans and is
heading to an unknown destination. Six days after, he is spotted in the Yeung-Sing
Forest. The US Military has no
choice but to eliminate him before he hands of sensitive data to the Chinese government.
Canuck: looks like we are going to be in for another
exciting ride as the chase continues
Canuck: When did you start working on this new project?
=P=Keyelite: I started working on this project in December
2006, just as Chase at Fushe was being finished.
Canuck: So you already had the sequel in mind before you
finished CAF
=P=Keyelite: Oh yes, I had it setup for a sequel as soon as
I started working on CAF.
Canuck: How many people have you got working on this project?
=P=Keyelite: There will be more than twenty people helping
out in total, all the way from Canada
to China.
Canuck: Are you doing all the editing yourself?
=P=Keyelite: Yep, All the editing and recording is done by
myself. However, the sound effects will be done by a different person.
Canuck: Which editing programs are you using?
=P=Keyelite: Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 for editing and Adobe
After Effects CS3 for the titles.
Canuck: I see you also used a mod for the movie, can you tell us how you got it?
=P=Keyelite: Yeah, well John Paul did all the dirty work for
it (The same person who helped create the code for the barrel roll in Chase at
Fushe) and I worked on the graphical aspects of the mod. It's a custom made
version of Songhua Stalemate that extends the forest line, adds a bigger city,
includes jets, and changes the atmosphere of Songhua, as
well as other things.
Canuck: That is very interesting, how long did it take to
develop the mod for the movie?
=P=Keyelite: About a half a year i would estimate. Just to tweak everything perfectly to the
story.
Canuck: What do you find the most challenging in making this
movie?
=P=Keyelite: The most challenging will be getting the voice
acting perfect. It's by far the hardest part in any machinima project and it
was lacking in Chase at Fushe.
Canuck: When do you expect it to be finished for final
release?
=P=Keyelite: At the moment, the movie is about 30% done in
total and filming is about halfway done. I expect it to be released sometime in
2008.
Canuck: I'm looking forward to seeing the final release as
I am sure a few thousand others are as well. Good luck with the rest of the movie and thanks for
the interview, I'm sure we will chat some more when the movie is
released.
=P=Keyelite: For sure
