What's your definition of machinima?

this will sound like an odd one but after watching  "Cod 4 Tricks #2" as featured by machinima.com, it left me wondering how does this qualify as "machinima"?

I e-mailed machinima.com enquiring about it to which i got a one sentence counter question...
"What exactly is your definition of machinima?" by Jeff McFarland Director of Programming, Machinima.com

I've since e-mailed him back with my answer ("machinima is a film crafting technique to tell a story or drive a plot premise, involving a computer generated graphics engine (usually a computer game is the most common choice).  Often this productions requiring planning, writing, directing, and editing")

to which I got a response of...
"Andrew, The nice thing about the definition of machinima is that it's open to interpretation. Cheers!"

Was looking through the machinifeed today, and found this article by Stranger109 , which I felt compelled to share.

god-of-machinima1.jpg Before delving into this week’s spotlight, I want to put forth a caveat so that my biases are clear. As I have previously mentioned, I think that we tend to gravitate towards machinima that are created in games we enjoy. Which is why I particularly enjoy films based in Half-Life 2. Having said that, I am a huge God of War fan and would place the series in my top three favorite of all time. I have been a long time fan of Greek mythology and often wish I could have Blades of Chaos chained to my wrists. So that’s out there now. I came across this week’s spotlight doing a search for God of War machinima and followed the hyper link trail that eventually led me to the God of War: Chains of Olympus website. Turns out they have created an interface that allows you to cut clips from the game together, add voice over, subtitles and music to create your own machinima for a contest called Become a God of Machinima.

Washington Post

INTRODUCTION   (The world 3 years later)

In the aftermath of the tragic events of November 25th 2010, the global political climate has changed. With Egypt taking the blame for the nuclear attack on Israel, Russian leader Vasiliy Kashlikov has siezed the opportunity to advance his own country's borders, moving past Kazakhstan and Afghanistan to occupy Iran.

Kashlikov's plans suffer a serious blow when most of his forces are bogged down by an Iranian insurgency. In just 2 and a half short years he has lost 45 percent of his troops. These losses combined with continued threats and pressure from the international community, have convinced Kashlikov that an immediate ceasfire and withdrawal of troops is necessary for the survival of his nation.

Fast forward to August 2013, U.S. Ambassador Johnathan Henning is on the verge of preventing the largest and most deadly conflict in human history. With the United States embroiled in several conflicts across the middle east, Henning is viewed as the new face of American foreign policy, perhaps even the future President of the United States.

Will Henning survive long enough to accomplish his dreams of world peace or will he be engulfed by another man's ambitions.

642 HITS

Bad news, Stage6 is closing its doors. Most of the movies at Gamerztheatre are hosted through Stage6.

If you have a movie hosted at some other video hosting site could you please provide the url in the forums . This way I can change the server info without losing any of the hit counts, ratings or comments.

If you don't have movies hosted anywhere, it would be very helpful if you could download a few of the movies here and upload them to Veoh.com or my ftp. Please post in the forums which movies you are downloading and want to upload so we don't get duplications.

Fortunately I have many of the movies here already on my ftp, so many of the best high quality streaming will continue to be streamed here.

Thank you

 Canuck

Gamerztheatre

Gamerztheatre was set up in Sep 2006 first of all to highlight the machinima movies coming from the Battlefield 2 game engine. Crazycanuck took up the challange of showcasing some of the excellent movies being produced.

Crazy had a head start to this project having a few movies saved to his hard drive. One of the finest being StRuPiE's and Lil_Donkey's Battlefield Vietnam "The Fallen One" Released early 2005, this movie, shot by Little_Donkey and Strupie, in cooperation with LRRP and Psyko, surpassed everything that was ever presented at the time as an ingame movie. A strong story, combined with beautiful captures and accompanying music makes this movie a master piece and a must-have for every self-respecting BF gamer ... Take a moment, sit down and breath in this heroic fight.

  The Fallen One

Crazy and I are awaiting the release of the follow-up to this machinima classic by StRuPiE's and Lil_Donkey .. Sands of Fire will be released sometime in 2008. Three years of work in the planning and filming this is going to be a block-buster.

Sands of Fire Preview

Over the following months I believe that Crazy has taken this site to a very high standerdered.

Your opinions below .. why .. because you matter.
