Pictures of War 2 by Monty_Dan

Pictures of War 2 is based on the flying career of Charlie Taylor who was the flight leader of 5  torpedo-bombers which took off on a routine training flight. Soon, after take-off things began to go wrong. The Charlie reported equipment malfunctions, gyro-compasses going crazy, and he lost his horizon, had radioed Florida with the bizarre message, "Control tower this is an emergency. We seem to be off course. We seem to be lost. We can't make out where we are." . When told to head due west they replied "Everything looks wrong, even the ocean looks strange".

A Navy search was initiated (including a Martin Mariner that blew up 23 minutes into its flight) that lasted for weeks.  No trace was ever found of the aircraft or crew.

This happened just off the Florida coast and only two hours into the flight, all the aircraft just disappeared and were never seen again. No bodies were found and no wreckage spotted.

In isolation, the tragedy was not unprecedented. Disorientation is easy to achieve over water and, if lost, it is easy to fly until your fuel runs out, simply falling from the sky. The lack of evidence of a crash was unusual but, again, it has happened before. But what do we make of a sixth plane, the rescue plane  - part of the search and rescue operation - blowing up less than half an hour after take-off, with total loss of life?

Lt. Charles Taylor

Was Charles Taylor  made a scapegoat for what one officer called “dereliction of duty .”

Many folks after the fact have been happy to blaim our Charlie for what is one of the most bassar disapearences in the Bermuda Triangle or Devil's Triangle but here are some facts seldom told.

.. So you thought that all of the training pilots were mere rookies, who “followed the leader” mindlessly to oblivion. Wrong! The careers of the men are presented. All had been in the military for years. One was sited 3 times for gallantry; another actually outranked Taylor.

.. So you thought they didn’t know the route they were flying, nor did they have to pay attention. It would be easy for them to get lost, yes? Nonsense. The actual training program is fully revealed, plus the requirements of every pilot.

.. You’ve been indoctrinated into thinking that the flight simply vanished over the ocean; that it was simply coincidental no trace was found; simply chance that a search plane vanished as well.

.. A calamity of controversies and cover-ups afterward. The Navy was truly baffled. Several families waged their own battles, one was pulled into mystery by an ominous telegram. Did all the pilots and crew actually perish?

Were search pilots dreaming when they heard the flight later that night? Was the flight leader, Lt. Charles Taylor, truly to blame? Were the pilots “simply following the leader” or did a subordinate take over? Was there dereliction of duty on the part of the Navy? Who or what was really to blame? What really happend ....

The Movie ..

The movie it's self is around 30 mins long, brings together another theory on what could have happened to Charles, not all the creation of Monty-Dan's mind .. but very plusable none the less. You will see that he has kept to historical fact at the start, then comes up with his vision.

Monty has had many awards for this and other works, including an Oleg from the IL-2 Flight Sim movie makers group/forum.
